Challenge

Most document scanning solutions need to be integrated into a dedicated mobile app to work. The many unsuitable offers on the market made finding a high-quality, web-based solution difficult. On the other hand, building an original solution would have required a lot of time and resources.

How VaxCard enabled vaccination record scanning from any web browser

With VaxCard, customers can order a durable, wallet-sized version of their CDC vaccination records and digital versions for their mobile phones. They are used all over the United States as a highly portable proof of vaccination. VaxCard had been looking for a reliable document scanning solution that customers could access in any web browser, without the inconvenience of having to download a separate app.

The Scanbot Web Document Scanner SDK fit the bill. The JavaScript-based software was integrated into VaxCard’s service within three weeks and allows customers to complete the checkout process for their personal vaccination card in less than 60 seconds. At every step of the way, Scanbot’s developers and sales team helped VaxCard to implement the solution in as little time as possible.

A closer look at VaxCard's lightning-fast document scanning workflow

By visiting VaxCard.com on any mobile device and pressing the scan button, customers grant the website temporary access to their device’s camera. They can then simply scan their CDC vaccination record. After a quick checkout process, the resulting image is sent to VaxCard’s printers for production and fulfillment.

  1. Customers open VaxCard.com on their mobile devices
  2. Selecting “Order Your VaxCard”, then “Scan My Vaccine Card” activates the document scanner
  3. After successfully scanning their vaccine records, customers complete checkout
  4. Their VaxCard is printed and arrives by mail within days

By integrating the Scanbot SDK into their web portal, VaxCard achieved:

An easy-to-use process for customers to order their personal VaxCard. As the company’s founder and president Matt Larkin puts it: “Scanbot enables our product to exist. Without Scanbot, we’d have spent many months and significant sums of money to build a comparable solution on our own. It’s likely that it would have taken us too long to effectively do this and we’d have missed the market window.”

Scanbot SDK’s vision and mission statement

Our initial goal for the Scanbot SDK was for it to read any text-based information via mobile devices – today, this has become a reality. The easy-to-integrate software creates virtually endless possibilities to streamline and facilitate processes for companies, employees, and customers alike, whether in document management, onboarding, sales, or HR.

We now build computer vision algorithms and machine learning models that understand all kinds of different document types. Our efforts open up even more possibilities for automated workflows that connect and process data in real time.

At the same time, we want to protect users’ personal data, which is why we opted for on-device intelligence. Scan results are encrypted before transmission to keep them safe from any outside attacks. To guarantee maximum privacy, no data is ever sent to Scanbot’s or any other server.
