How Coupies enabled its customers to submit excellent receipt scans suitable for automated OCR processing in their backend
COUPIES is part of acardo group’s portfolio and has been one of the most popular mobile couponing providers in the DACH region since 2010. The mobile app turns regular purchases into smart shopping experiences and saves its users money by allowing them to benefit from offers and discounts. This works in three ways: coupons for supermarkets and drugstores, coupons that can be redeemed directly in-store, and coupon codes for online stores.
For manufacturer coupons that cannot be redeemed in-store, buyers have to submit the receipt to receive a cashback. To handle around 1 million receipt submissions annually, acardo group AG needed an accurate, easy-to-use document capture solution that they could quickly integrate into the COUPIES iOS and Android app.

The process before the Scanbot SDK
An app user decided to submit a receipt to receive a discount.
They opened the COUPIES app and uploaded a picture of the receipt taken with their devices camera.
The picture was then transmitted to the backend, where staff verified it manually. Since most pictures were low-quality, automated text recognition – which requires high-resolution images – was not an option.
After successful verification, the user received the cashback amount in their account.
