What is a Pharmacode?
Pharmacode, also known as Pharmaceutical Binary Code, is a 1D barcode primarily used in the pharmaceutical industry for packaging control, internal tracking, and medication identification.
It comprises a series of vertical bars with varying widths, with two different bar widths: narrow and wide. Pharmacode does not use a start or stop character.
Pharmacodes are able to encode a single integer, or whole number, from 3 to 123070 in binary format, which also gives it its alternative name. However, this means that its information is not human-readable like the alphanumeric characters encoded in digits of other 1D barcodes would be.
Application
Pharmacode is typically used for internal tracking and packaging control in the pharmaceutical industry. Thanks to its design, it is readable even with printing errors and can ensure the correct matching of product components and documentation.
