Windows SDK

2022 saw the release of our Windows Barcode Scanner SDK. Our focus so far had been on native and cross-platform apps for Android, iOS, and Web. By adapting our solutions for the Windows ecosystem, we can now cover even more of our customers’ use cases.

Our SDK runs on Windows 10 and 11 devices using Intel architecture, which makes it a perfect fit for Windows-based tablets.

Check Scanner

We added a new module to our Data Capture SDK: the Check Scanner. It lets you automatically extract the MICR code printed on the bottom of most standard checks, which contains the routing number, account number, and check number. This simplifies cashing checks, routing details to the banking system, and processing in the back office.

You can learn more about our Check Scanner on its product page. For a quick overview of its features, check out our infographic.

Demo apps

We released three new demo apps in 2022 – one for each of our SDKs.

The Barcode Scanner Demo App lets you scan a wide range of 1D and 2D barcodes, both individually and in batches. An optional AR overlay gives you a live preview of each code’s contents. By filtering for specific barcode types, you can quickly identify the relevant items without having to scan each code individually.

With the Document Scanner Demo App, you can digitize any paper document in mere seconds. The user-friendly interface helps you capture perfect scans, which you can then prepare for further processing using our quality-enhancing image filters.

The Data Capture Demo App allows you to extract data as key-value pairs from various sources. The demo covers ID, health, and receipt documents by default. Additionally, you can define your own data patterns, which let you capture any combination of letters and numbers.

Customer success stories

By integrating the Scanbot Barcode Scanner SDK into their iOS and Android apps, Rimi Baltic reduced the costs for their retail Scan & Go solution by 90%. They now plan to roll it out to more than 100 stores across the Baltic states.

Our first Developer Success Story comes from ALH Group. They offer their insureds the possibility to scan and upload documents in the Hallesche4u customer app, but initially with less than optimal results. After switching to the Scanbot Document Scanner SDK, they were able to improve the quality of document submissions considerably, thanks in part to its intuitive UI.

We also released our first Customer Spotlight in collaboration with Barmenia, providing insight into why they chose Scanbot SDK, their integration process, and their stance on digitization in the insurance sector.

Product brochures

If you want to know more about our SDKs, the product brochures give you a concise feature overview. Take a look at our Barcode Scanning Brochure, Document Scanning Brochure, and Data Capture Brochure to learn more about possible use cases and the advantages our solutions offer.

Platform guides

In 2022, we released five Platform Guides covering the iOS and Android operating systems as well as the popular cross-platform frameworks Flutter, React Native, and Xamarin. If you are unsure what to choose for developing your mobile app, these guides will provide you with an overview of each platform’s pros and cons.

Stay tuned for additional Platform Guides to be released in 2023!

Whitepapers

Our whitepapers provide you with in-depth knowledge on topics related to our products. One highlight this year was the NA Insurance Online Presence Whitepaper. It contains insights into the adoption of digital customer portals and smartphone apps by insurance companies in the US and Canada.

We also released two whitepapers detailing the many applications of barcode and document scanning in enterprise operations. These longer reads will give you all the information you need to make an informed decision. Check out our Barcode Technology and Document Scanning Technology whitepapers to learn more!

Blog highlights

We covered a wide range of topics in our blog this year, including Machine Learning and Computer Vision. In case you missed them, here are some highlights:

Catastrophic forgetting in machine learning: One of the biggest challenges in Machine Learning today is losing performance on one task when training for new tasks. Learn why this happens and how you can overcome this problem.

YOLO object detection: Algorithms can now reliably detect all kinds of objects in photos and videos. In this article, we take a closer look at YOLO, which promises lightning-fast object detection.

5 interesting barcode use cases: Barcodes on bees, beer keg tracking, autonomous warehouse drones… What else can barcodes be used for? Find out in our blog post!

We hope this overview proved useful to you and you found some inspiration to further improve your business processes. The Scanbot SDK team wishes you a pleasant end of the year and looks forward to working with you in 2023!
